Autism art at The Frank Art Gallery

An exhibit of artists with autism from South Florida

Pembroke Pines, Florida: A collection of 61 pieces of artwork from 15 local south Florida artists who identify with autism spectrum will be on exhibit at The Frank Ortis Art Gallery located in Pembroke Pines. The exhibit AUT NAIF provides an up-close look at the self-taught group of artists belonging to Artists With Autism, Inc, a nonprofit organization helping aspiring artists on the autism spectrum promote and

market their art.

Cynthia Drucker, Executive Director and Founder of Artists with Autism says, “This public exhibit validates their achievements, their talents and abilities. We want society to focus on the abilities and dismiss many of the myths of autism.”

The AUT NAIF collection includes artworks from Brandon Drucker (26), who was chosen by the City of Boynton Beach to provide all the artwork for the 2018 Boynton Beach City calendar. Brandon describes his color block art of languages translating the message; Everybody in the World, “Everybody has to have love in life. Everybody is looking for love in real life. That’s how love is, people just have to learn how to love without fighting.” Naif is the artstyle describing art that is free on convention. None of the artists in the AUT NAIF exhibit have had formal art training.

Opening night included an Art Market that consisted of twelve of the participating artists as vendors selling their own smaller artworks as well as merchandise such as notecards with their artwork printed on it, and reprints of various sizes. Ms Drucker explained, “We include an Art Market whenever possible during exhibits because it allows the artists to interact with the public which helps with their communication and social skills. Individuals with autism want to be social, they just don’t know how. But when they speak about their art, they are talking about a topic they understand, it’s something they have created.”

The autism art exhibit at The Frank runs from March 29 through May 19, 2018.
